Queen – Hindi Movie Review

Monday, July 7th, 2014

Got a chance to watch Queen, with Kangana Ranaut in the lead role.

The thing that impressed me about the movie was the positive angle with which the entire movie has been taken. Even in serious scenes, the director has found a way to bring in a touch of humour and that is amazing.

Queen is all about how a young girl from a conservative family gets to explore the world and learns about really being happy.

She goes to Europe, makes new friends, and realizes what it is to liveΒ for yourself. This experience gives her the courage to come back to India and give back to the ex-fiance and his family what role they deserve to play in her life.

The last time I saw Kangana Ranaut was in the movie Fashion. I am 100% convinced that Kangana has amazing talent and it has just been under utilized in the industry.

Chillar Party – Movie Review – Good time pass

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Just finished watching Chillar Party.

Chillar Party is a children’s movie made just for kids. I am quite sure old people will find this movie boring, but if you are young at heart, you might enjoy it.

Chillar Party is the story about how the kids in a colony get together to fight a battle against all odds in saving a dog that belongs to their friend. They battle it out with a minister to save the dog and finally win.

The movie gets more and more exciting as each scene progresses, maintaining the funny side to it from start to finish. The way in which the kids talk and maintain the momentum in the movie is amazing. In every scene, the director has made sure there is a message that teaches good things to kids.

Welcome To Sajjanpur – Movie Review

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Welcome To Sajjanpur is a comedy movie that features Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao. This movie is directed by Shyam Benegal – I have not seen a Shyam Benegal movie after those good old days of Doordarshan where we used to watch regional language movies at 2pm on Sunday afternoons πŸ™‚

The main story of the movie revolves around Shreyas Talpade who is a ‘letter writer’ who is the only educated guy in a village, where he is the only guy who can write and read letters for the villagers. While his dream is to become a writer who writes novels, because of his laid back approach, he decides to open a small shop ( ie. getting a table and a chair to be placed below the banyan tree next to the post office πŸ™‚ ) where he charges people two Rupees for writing a letter and one Rupee for reading their letters.

Udaan – Movie Review

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

I found Udaan movie available on Netflix – this movie was also released only July and it is good to see it already available for watching online via Netflix. (I guess they have a tie up with UTV to upload all the movies online as soon as they are out of the theater – no wonder all the flop movies are available online as soon as they bomb in the box office πŸ™‚ )

Udaan is the story about a teenaged boy who gets expelled from boarding school after repeatedly getting caught doing one naughty thing or the other. He comes back home and his strict dad makes sure he cannot pursue his dream to become a writer – by forcing him to come to his engineering company in the day time and attend engineering college during evenings.

Rajneeti – Movie Review

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Rajneeti is a star studded movie that came, bombed and disappointed all the audiences earlier this year. I got a chance to watch this movie last night on Netflix for Wii.

Rajneeti is one of those stories which take twists and turns based on the mood of the director. As I have seen many movies like this one in the past, I am used to this style of stories and hence I did not feel bored. Also, this movie has about half a dozen popular stars – Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgan, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampol, Nana Patekar, Naseeruddin Shah, etc. Finally one thing happened which I did not expect – everyone except Ranbir and Katrina disappear towards the end of the movie.

The movie is all about a very powerful family that controls the politics of a state (sounds familiar?). The story starts with

Love Aaj Kal – Movie Review

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Watched Love Aaj Kal last night on Netflix. Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone have played the lead role in this movie, with Rishi Kapoor playing a supporting role, helping Saif Ali Khan with timely advices on what to do next in his relationship with Deepika Padukone. Saif Ali Khan infact plays the role of Rishi Kapoor in all the flash back scenes.

The story of this movie, is quite along the lines of the Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna – controversial to a few, practical to a few and complete nonsense to many.

New York – Movie Review

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

With my addiction to Netflix on Wii increasing day by day, I chose to watch New York Hindi movie last night.

The story revolves around three people who become good friends while going to college together. This story starts with a flash back of their college life and how life changes drastically with the 9/11 bombings. All this is narrated by the third friend to FBI after he gets picked up by them in an attempt to uncover a sleeper cell planning to undertake a major attack in an unknown location in New York.

Chance Pe Dance – Movie Review

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Got a chance to watch Chance Pe Dance on Netflix on Wii (I guess the honey moon period for Netflix on Wii is still on).

Chance Pe Dance is a story of a talented young dancer who finally reaches his goal of becoming the star of India, after a long struggle. The story line is very similar to what we have seen in many such movies before in Hindi – I am surprised someone really thought this movie might click!

Kurbaan – Movie Review

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Now that we have Netflix on Wii, I am starting to watch more movies than before.

Got a chance to watch Kurbaan movie on Netflix as it was the online Hindi movie available (or atleast easily noticeable) when I was searching in Foriegn Language section.

Kurbaan starts with a romantic touch, continues with some serious mystery and ends with a flop, just like many other movies which lose their charm towards the end.

Wake Up Sid – Nice Movie

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Wake Up Sid is now available on Netflix and so we decided to watch Wake Up Sid last night at home. I have watched many movies this year, but would rank Wake Up Sid as one of the best movies I have watched this year. I think this is one of the best movies of Ranbir Kapoor so far.

Wake Up Sid is a story about a rich kid, Sid, played by Ranbir Kapoor, who grows up to be a irresponsible brat.
