Finally got a chance to watch Unnaipol Oruvan starring Kamal Haasan and Mohan Lal.
The movie is a 100% frame by frame copy of A Wednesday where Nasiruddin Shah plays the role of an ‘ordinary citizen’, who takes his revenge on the terrorists in their style. Kamal Haasan, known for his attempt for variety in all his movies plays this role in Unnaipol Oruval. Anupam Kher plays the role of the Police Commissioner in A Wednesday, while Mohal Lal plays the same role in this movie.
Since I watched A Wednesday already, I was not very impressed by this movie as it did not offer me anything different/special. May be, because of the high standards set by A Wednesday, I guess Unnaipol Oruvan did not appeal much to me.
Shruti Hassan, Kamal Haasan’s daughter, has scored the music for this movie. The sound tracks appear to be original, but definitely not the ones that we can rave about. Kamal has also sung two short songs in this movie, the only two songs in the actual movie. I did hear that there are two more songs which are in the album released for this movie.
This is the second tamil movie that I am watching this year, which is a remake of a hindi movie. The first one was Kanden Kaadhalai which was a remake of Jab We Met. The interesting difference is that Kanden Kadhalai did have a few comedy scenes which were quite original, just suited for Tamil audiences. Unnaipol Oruval was a carbon copy of A Wednesday, and hence that is the only difference I noticed.
