I happened to come across Arduino today. Arduino is a open source technology used in the electronics world using which you can build simple devices which communicate and respond.

All these years I was only exposed to the ‘Open Source’ software concept, where people collaborate and provide open source software that can be used to build applications (Eg. This blog runs on WordPress, which is a Open Source Content Management System, which is build on an open source programming language called PHP, with open source database called MySQL and running on a open source operating system called Cent OS, with a open source web server called Apache).

Today, when I got exposed to a similar concept along the hardware line, I was thrilled and am now curious to learn more about it.

This entire experience was triggered after watching a TED video (yes, I watch one TED video a day 🙂 and this video that I watched today is available below for you to check out)  where one of the founders talk about the ways in which Arduino has been used all over the world.

Then I went to the Arduino website and wanted to get going right away with the next steps. I happened to find out a company called Simple Labs in Chennai, who not only have the relevant hardward for this, but also provide hands on training in this area. It was interesting to see the reference made to Aamir Khan’s role in 3 Idiots, where he conducts a similar school to build your own tools using your creativity. So I am all excited about reaching out to them to attend one of their training classes and learn something new.

Will write more about this once I proceed with this.

As you can see, Arduino could be the catalyst for the next revolution.
