Veppam – Movie Review – Interesting Movie

Friday, November 4th, 2011

I got a chance to watch Veppam movie at PVR Cinemas in Chennai in August. Just realized I missed writing about it.

Veppam is a movie that we happened to watch because we did not get tickets for some other nice movie that was running at the same time in PVR.

Veppam is a movie about three friends who grow up together and how their lives take interesting turns and finally end up peacefully ( 🙂 actually the movie ends with a lot of violence, so peacefully might not be the right word here).

Gautam Menon has co-produced this movie and that shows he is slowly entering into producing line, after a good exposure to this business as a director.

Nani (Karthik) and Karthik Kumar (Vishnu) are friends who grow up together. Nithya Menon plays the role of Revathy, who is also friends from childhood with Karthik and is in love with him. The movie is all about how the friends react to unexpected situations and how the movie ends with a lot of suspense and keeps us guessing till the last scene.

Extraordinary Customer Service – Book Review

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Just finished reading this book called ‘The Agile Manager’s Guide To Extraordinary Customer Service’ written by Susan M. Gage.

I am impressed – fully impressed about the fact that this book contains hundreds of different useful tips about customer service, all given in less than a hundred pages. In short, every page has  one or more very useful tips – which I used to think I knew, but I just realized what a big mistake it is, when we do not implement it.

Before reading this book, the only lesson I had learnt about customer service was that it is seven times more difficult to get a new customer than to retain an existing one. I learnt many new things after reading this book. I have highlighted some of them here below.

Mithaas – Restaurant Review

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Went to Mithaas last weekend before going for a movie and had a mixed experience there.

Mithaas is a part of the group that owns a chain of good restaurants such as Mughal (it is quite famous in New Jersey) and Ming (the Indo-Chinese speciality one). Mithaas was opened a few years back as a place where you can grab snacks, sweets related items, or have a quick bite, when you do not have a lot of time to wait and dine.

It was around lunch time and so I decided to order the Mithaas Special Thali. Mithaas Special thaali consists of with two rotis and a set of three side dishes. When we went it was dal makhani, baingan curry and one more item.

I have to say, I loved every single item in this dish and was quite impressed with the presentation too.

They also provide Raita and Cucumber as side dishes. Initially I thought I could mix raita with rice, but later I realized that it was not the right combination.

The only drawback with this restaurant is the quality of the service. I got a feeling that the staff there just did not care about the customers.

Initially, I realized they made us buy our own water. This is the only restaurant in the world that I am aware of that does not have any water served to the customers. Also, when they did not have change, they made it our headache to go back and ask them for the change if we wanted it. It would have been a wonderful gesture, if they offered to provide the change at the table, as soon as they got some change. They missed a golden opportunity to show that the class of their customer service can also match the taste of the food they prepare.
