Aamir Khan – Satyamev Jayate

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

I watched Satyamev Jayate by Aamir Khan last Sunday and was totally impressed by it.

Aamir Khan is trying something similar to what Oprah Winfrey has been doing on her show for quite a few years in the US – trying to bring to public attention typical issues, that we have all heard of, spoken about, but not paid attention to.

He is also quite upfront in stating that he is not trying to bring any one to justice or pin point who is at fault. He is only making an attempt to show facts as it is and let people decide what should be done, if anything should be done about it.

The show I watched was about ‘domestic violence’ and I was so impressed by it that I started taking down notes about it and also recorded it for future reference. As I was watching it, I realized that people who do not know Hindi, will not be able to get the full information discussed in the show.

Ghajini – Hindi Movie Review

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Ghajini was a remake of the tamil superhit Ghajini. The tamil version was released in 2005 and was a story line taken from a movie called Memento. (I tried watching Memento, but could not follow the sequence after five scenes, as the director had pasted all the scenes in the reverse order by mistake 🙂 ).

I heard Aamir Khan was so impressed after seeing the tamil version that he wanted to act in the Hindi remake of it. Murugadoss is the director of the movie in Hindi also.  Aamir has tried his best to match Surya’s role, but he is nowhere close to it – good attempt though!

Hindi version of Ghajini also marked the debut of Asin in Hindi movies – not that she did exceptionally well in Bollywood in the past three years. Since I liked Asin from the earlier movies she acted in Tamil, I was a bit disappointed to see her flop in Bollywood. I guess Hurricane Katrina is in full flow in Bollywood and no one else is able to even come close 🙂

Dhobi Ghat – Movie Review

Monday, April 18th, 2011

Watched Dhobi Ghat movie today – courtesy of Netflix – any flop movie in Hindi shows up on Netflix within a month or two after it is released.

This movie has three parallel stories running, which come together at the end.

Aamir Khan and his wife, Kiran Rao have produced the movie, with Aamir Khan acting as the painter, Arun, who happens to meet Monica Dogra, who plays the role of a young Investment Banking Consultant from the US.

She likes his paintings and they end up talking to each other and end up getting physically involved with each other. The next morning Aamir Khan regrets it, apologises to her and they go their own ways.

The dhobi guy who takes care of Aamir’s clothes is Prateik Babbar (Smitha Patil’s son) and he also takes care of Monica’s house hold. Monica and Prateik become good friends and Pratiek ends up falling in love with Monica.

During this time, Aamir happens to watch some videos left over by the old tenants and realizes that the old tenant was pushed to death by her husband’s affairs with some other lady.

After some mixups, the story ends with everyone going their own way. I really thought it was the interval 🙂 and that the movie will continue!

Overall it is an ok movie, but definitely not of my kind.

Peepli Live – Slooow Movie

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

I watched Peepli Live on Netflix just because I was told that it was produced by Aamir Khan. I regretted it two hours later!

Peepli Live is a documentary movie on how the media can make a story out of anything and everything. The core of the story revolves around a poor farmer who hears that Government will give money to the family of any farmer who commits suicide. This concept is well picturised in the movie, but I really wished they had moved it faster. It was soooo slooooooooow that towards the end I was happy it was over.

Next time I will neither watch a movie produced by a good actor nor a movie in which the producer acts as the hero!

At the moment, I am glad it is over.

Dil Chahta Hai – Movie Review

Friday, March 19th, 2010

We had ordered Dil Chahta Hai dvd from Netflix and that gave us an opportunity to watch the movie one more time last night.

Dil Chahta Hai is an entertaining movie about three friends each one of them with unique characteristics. Aamir Khan plays the role of a happy go lucky person who never has anything serious to think or say about – reminds me about some one I know very well 🙂 . Saif Ali Khan plays the role of a romeo, who walks around carrying his heart in his hands, ready to fall in love within five minutes of meeting any girl. Akshaye Khanna plays the role of the serious minded artist who is absorbed in his own world most of the time.

3 Idiots – Movie Review – Exceptionally Good Movie

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Watched 3 Idiots at Big Cinemas on Oak Tree Road. 3 Idiots is an amazing movie that kept us captivated from the beginning to the end.

Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi have played the role of three friends who enjoy their college life with the usual funny experiences that each one of us can related to during our college days.

Aamir Khan plays the role of ‘Rancho’, who is a brilliant student, with a different vision of thinking of his own, which is not only unconventional, but also practically smarter than what his professors think.
