iPhone 5C and 5S – Nothing great about it

Wednesday, September 11th, 2013

Apple announced the release of iPhone 5C and 5S phone models.

It immediately reminded me of the Mercedes C class and S class models. Mercedes was known as the exclusive car for the elite crowd for quite a while. Then they realized they need to go deeper into the market and came up with a C class variant (a compact size) in 1993. This made it easier for every one to afford a Mercedes. What it also did is move many of the die hard fans of Mercedes away from this brand, looking for other brands that will never compromise on quality.

Seeing the news of the 99USD IPhone for the 5C (with a two year contract), it appears Apple is shooting itself in the foot.

  • They have released this C class which will replace the beautiful aluminum case with a reinforced plastic case – no matter how much they claim it will be the same, we all know plastic is not the same as Aluminum.
  • They feel this is the right way to get a bigger market share that is currently eaten away by competitors like Samsung, who have launched a wider array of phones to cater to the mass audiences.
  • They have also released a 5S, which is the high end model with a better processor and finger print scanning for unlocking the phone – really? Is that all we get in a S class model?

Overall, it sounds like a disaster and I believe Apple has lost the opportunity to take control back in 2013 with some smart moves – unfortunately these moves are not smart enough.

So my prediction is that the shares of Apple will go down from 494USD (as of end of day 10th September 2013) to 450USD or lesser by the end of the year. Lets wait and watch.

Apple to allow Flash on iPhone and iPad

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

This week Apple has made a significant change to its developer agreements and it is going to change the marketplace.

Apple’s success with iPhone and iPad have been complimented very well by the App Store in the iPhone. With its tight control over the App Store, Apple has made sure every single application goes through its ‘secret review’ process. As a part of these restrictions, Apple had also made the developers sign an agreement that they will not use certain third party tools such as Flash, as well as restricting third party applications in the iPhone or iPad applications.

This week, Apple has relaxed some of these restrictions – out of which two of those are highly significant.  They are listed below with details

iPad – A pleasant experience

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I got a chance this week to play around with my son’s iPad and felt I should write about it immediately. Being a staunch blackberry supporter, I still do not want to concede defeat to the iPhone or the iPad as I can still debate my way around why it is not the right device for a hard core technology addict like me.

In any case, I do believe that iPad is the right device for any computer user and by far the best device in the world for a normal computer user.

Do I need an iPad?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Within a day after every one announced that Apple launches iPad, there are many questions that have come up in my mind as an addicted user of laptops and smart phones for over ten years now.

I spend over 12 hours a day on these devices every day and am still not sure if the iPad will be beneficial to me in any way. I did a similar comparison between iPhone and Blackberry and decided to stick to Blackberry.

I am trying to come up with a similar comparison, just focused around my needs. So before I go into any comparison, it will be better to take a look at what I do.

Blackberry vs iPhone

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

I have been using Blackberry from the year it was launched (in 2000). Ever since the launch of iPhone, I have always been asked by many of my friends why I am still with Blackberry!

I decided to give iPhone a serious try and see if it fits my needs and the results are ready to be published to every one. Click the Read More link below to find out the details.
