Singam is the latest movie for Surya and there was quite a lot of hype about it.
I got a chance to watch Singam at the Satyam complex in Chennai.
The movie starts with a sample of what is in store for the next two hours or so. Surya is in fighting mode from start to end, trying to show his role differently from many similar roles we have seen in movies like Kakka Kakka, Aaru, etc. 15 minutes into the movie, I could see many in the audience feeling completely bored and hoping for something good to happen.
Anushka looks gorgeous, actually ‘very sexy’ might be a more appropriate term. Especially in one song sequence, she has exposed more than any other herione has done in any song. Other than that she does not have much role in the movie. I wish one day our movies grow beyond using heroines just to add glamour component and are also an integral part of the movie. I think Mani Ratnam already does that quite well.
The songs are really nice and I liked them a lot.
It is quite coincidental that my last movie at Satyam was also a Surya movie, Aadhavan. My concern was if it was Surya – Satyam combination that jinxed my impression about Surya as I liked his acting in Kakka Kakka a lot.
Thank God I had a good dinner at Idly Dosa restaurant in the same complex, or it would have ruined the whole evening.
I would not recommend this movie to anyone.
